Red knight tour 2024
On June 28th, 2024 a total of 8 members started the RED KNIGHT tour. On this tour you will visit the respective fire departments whose first letter can be found in the words RED KNIGHT. This originally serves to recruit members and maintain community and camaraderie in the region. So by Sunday we will visit a total of 9 fire departments.
First we met at the Birnthaler inn for lunch, then we started at the local Geisenfeld fire department. We then continued past the BMW factory in Dingolfing to the Dingolfing Volunteer Fire Department and visited the old Magirus classic car, which is already 102 years old and is still ready to drive!
As the third fire department, we visited the Eging am See volunteer fire department, which is located near the western town of Pullman City, and had nice and insightful (technical) conversations during a break. Finally we went to the Haidmühle Volunteer Fire Department, of which our member and road captain Selim is a member. After checking into our nearby hotel and cooling off in the pool, we ended the evening with delicious meat loaf and potato salad, as well as a sociable evening of camaraderie including a tour of the FF Haidmühle equipment shed.
On the second day of the tour, we traveled from Haidmühle to the newly built main fire station of the BF Regensburg and visited it. From there we drove through the beautiful Upper Palatinate to Nittendorf to secure the letter N here. The next stopover was just a few kilometers away at the FF Kallmünz, where we were already eagerly awaited by some comrades. In a friendly atmosphere we exchanged ideas with our comrades and reported on our trip so far. The highlight of the second day was going to the Hohenfells military training area to the “US Army Garrison Bavaria” stationed there. At an American fire station (US ARMY FIRE RESCUE BAVARIA) on the military training area, we were given a tour from the station manager there, including a vehicle explanation. Here we were able to take a close look at the differences between America and Germany and spent a few hours with interesting fire department discussions in a friendly atmosphere. When we arrived at the hotel in beautiful, Franconian Hersbruck, we ended the evening with delicious German food and the Germany-Denmark football game.
The third day began for us with the drive to Tuchenbach with the last letter “T”. Unfortunately, the weather thwarted our plans that day near Ingolstadt, forcing us to travel through the last bay areas one at a time. For the final dinner we went to the Högnerhäusl in Ingolstadt. From here we said goodbye and everyone headed home after 3 days of fire brigade and motorcycle.
At this point we would like to thank all fire departments for their outstanding and friendly hospitality!
